        Okaland County Property Improvement Program

        Oakland County Owner Occupied Home Improvement Program

        For more than 30 years, the Oakland County Community and Home Improvement Division has met the home improvement needs of thousands of low and moderate-income homeowners. Oakland County's Home Improvement Loan program is designed to improve the condition of existing housing. With a no cost, deferred, no-interest loan, residents can:

        · Make needed repairs
        · Maintain or increase property value
        · Decrease utility costs

        A qualified homeowner must own and live in the home and have a gross income that falls within the income guidelines (current income eligibility limits are included in the downloadable application). A homeowner can obtain a loan for, as much as $18,000 provided there is sufficient equity in the home. The no-interest loan is deferred until the applicant no longer resides in the home. There are no other costs associated with this loan. State of Michigan licensed and insured residential builders complete all rehabilitation work.

        When applicable, a lead based paint risk assessment is completed on homes built prior to 1978. Lead abatement work practices are required and work is performed by State of Michigan licensed lead abatement contractors.

        Priority home improvements include repairs for purposes of health and safety, energy conservation, and structural preservation. New roofs, windows, siding, doors, plumbing, electrical, heating, water heaters, water and sewer systems, kitchens, bathrooms, porches, barrier free access, wells, septic systems and basement waterproofing, are a sample of eligible projects.

        Applications are available by pick up at Hazel Park City Hall Planning and Economic Development Office, or by logging onto the Oakland County Community & Home Improvement website.
