The cost of an Idaho driver license varies based on your age and how long your license will need to be valid before renewal. To get a license that is valid for eight years, you’ll need to pay $55. If you need a license that is valid for four years, you’ll be required to pay $30. If you need a license valid for three years, the fee is $25, and if you need a license valid for one year, the fee is $15. In addition to the licensing fee, you should be prepared for potential application fees, testing fees, processing fees, or some combination of these costs. Keep in mind that fees are subject to change, and the most effective way to stay up to date on current licensing costs is to reach out to your local DMV.
Some may find it more challenging than others, but with the right amount of studying and practice, any driver should be able to pass the Idaho driving skills test! During this test, a driver will be expected to safely operate a vehicle in traffic, follow signs and signals, safely communicate with other drivers, and generally follow the rules of the road. Before the driving skills test is over, an applicant will be required to pass a parking section. Many find this to be the most technical and challenging section of the driving test, so applicants may consider extra practice on these tasks before visiting the licensing office.
In the state of Idaho, a driver may be a minimum of 17 years old to receive their full Driver License. A driver must be at least 14½ years old to get a Supervised Instruction Permit and at least 16 years old to obtain a Graduated Driver License. To work up to full driving privileges, minors are required to go through a gradual licensing process with several levels of driving practice. A driver should be aware of any restrictions that are placed on their type of license, such as the number of passengers allowed in their vehicle at one time and whether or not they are allowed to drive during nighttime hours.
To best prepare for a driving test, a new driver in Idaho can do three things. First, each applicant should study the Idaho Handbook, which is full of important laws, essential driving instruction, and valuable safety tips. In addition to studying the handbook, all new drivers under the age of 17 will need to complete a driver’s education course. Finally, a driver should practice supervised driving while holding an Instruction Permit. To be sure they’re thoroughly prepared for the driving test, a driver should continue to practice supervised driving until they are completely comfortable behind the wheel, even if that takes a longer period of time than expected.
When it’s time to prepare for your online practice quizzes, the first thing you should do is check out the Idaho Driver’s Handbook. The handbook holds all the information you’ll need to pass the test, including important laws and essential driving instruction. After reading through the handbook, check out some online practice quizzes! There’s no better way to assess how prepared you are than by taking a test just like the one you’ll face at your local sheriff’s office. In addition to studying on your own, it’s a good idea to take a driver’s education course from an approved driving school. Even if driver’s education isn’t required for your age group, learning from an instructor who knows the ins and outs of state driving laws is a great way to help cement them in your mind.

Dawn Roberson 1 week agoI do NOT recommend using this driving school. We paid in full upfront only for them to completely ignore us when I needed to schedule my son’s driving test. They ignored every text and voicemail I left for 2 weeks. Now my son’s appt with the DPS that we waited 2 months for has to be rescheduled! The next appt is nearly 3 months out, so now my son will not get his license for another 3 months! One of their drivers has the kids stop for his personal errands, and gives zero instructions to the students! They do have one really good driving instructor, but requesting him is a flip of the coin. After ignoring my request for two weeks, they responded with their instructor retired with no notice. We are on our own! Had they told me immediately maybe I could have made alternative plans, but instead they ignored me for 2 weeks! They did not even apologize as you can see from the screens shots I provided. They were so very nice until they had my money! I thought for sure the negative reviews were just old… they are not! I will be filing a complaint with the BBB and leaving this review on every review site I can find to warn other parents. ALLIANCE DRIVING SCHOOL DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR KIDS, ONLY ABOUT YOUR MONEY! Once they have it they lose ALL customers service and treat their customers horribly. Read More

1 week agoBefore I registered and paid, I called to schedule the six hours of drive time. I was told I could schedule in-person driving as soon as I paid. Nope. Greg's then says I have to wait for first day of class "but scheduling isn't a problem as long as you're flexible with your location." I waited for first day of class and try to schedule in person classes. However, there are NO IN PERSON CLASSES AVAILABLE ANYWHERE NEAR ME ON EVENINGS OR WEEKENDS ANYTIME IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS. It's too late for a refund now that the class has started. I think Greg's knew scheduling would be a problem and strung me along until I could no longer get a refund. Read More

2 weeks agoI was a student here from Nov of 2023 to Dec 2023. If you don't know anything trucking, DO NOT under any circumstances whatsoever come to this "school" if you can avoid it. I truly wouldn't even recommend this place to my worst enemy. I did not earn my CDL from here and trust me it wasn’t from a lack of trying, but because I was not ready to do my DMV driving test after entrusting this school to train me properly. Classes are beyond disorganized whether it was instructors clashing several times a day due to differing methods of doing things or heck because instructors wanted to have a random phone break in the middle of instructing at the oddest times. Moreover, the admin staff and especially the yard supervisor (Vee Lampkin) they are just also all around the most horrendous and neglectful people you'll meet they WILL be disrespectful towards the honest learner especially if you are not getting the concept at first, the instructors will find a way to go off on you like maniacs for not getting it right when you're paying them to learn. It happened to me and several others. I really only got my CDL because of myself and ultimately going to a different school because I didn't get taught a thing at United, but if you pass with your CDL from here they'll definitely take the credit for all the work the student did, but if not they’ll just toss you aside and pocket your money. United if anything deals more in quantity rather than quality in the sense that everything was so rushed moving you from one “skills phase” to the next rather than truly caring if the student understood the concept or not. They enroll so many students that it was beyond difficult to get scheduled for classes and even to catch up on behind the wheel time for the active students going through their initial yard weeks which is only 2 because you waste the first 2 weeks getting talked at and watching old videos that have NOTHING TO DO with what you’ll be tested on at the DMV. And oh, how could I forget, they also have a trucking simulator that students get to barely use because they are so worried that a student may ‘break it’, but the recruiter will bring it up to you as to justify you spending your money here AND you’ll get to see every instructor use it doing there break time but damn you if the student tries. After my last class I had to wait over a month to take my CDL driving test. They still pushed me to take it after poorly training me and the result at the end was predictable which shows how ethical they are. I then enrolled at Felipe's Truck Driving School and in only a few QUALITY weeks with caring instructors I got my CDL AFTER I unlearned ALL the horrible habits taught here at United. Because the instructors here at United kept rushing me and telling me i should just quit, which did not help the situation. One in particular, where one of the instructors (I’ll let you guess), had no tact and made a comment to the effect of I'm better than everyone else you better listen to me like he actually "knew something" and would just shake his head and make the dumbest snide comment like he was in high school, he really tried to make me feel less than when I made an honest mistake and instead of honestly just teaching me he'd run his suck, but I guess he’d rather be stuffing something into his fat suck, and ultimately how he's an instructor allowed on the yard and not in a cage at a zoo or mental institution is beyond me. All in all, I have more terrible experiences I could easily cite from this nightmare experience (but there's a character limit). Overall it was a complete waste of time and energy which I'll never get back. Everyday at United felt like I was working against myself. A lot of people are relying on this ‘school’ for their future careers to put food on the table and I feel like they could ultimately care less cause again you’ve paid in full just to start at united regardless if you pass or not they’ve got theirs but the ultimate question is will you at the end get yours.
